Dr. Henry Shih was born in Auburn, AL and grew up in Huntsville, AL. His educational background includes a BS and OD from the University of Alabama-Birmingham. Following Optometry School, Dr Shih was commissioned in the US Navy and served 7 years. He then returned to medical school and received his MD from the University of Alabama.
Dr. Shih completed his residency in Emergency Medicine at Brooke Army Medical Center. Dr. Shih then was stationed at Ft Hood, TX as Brigade Surgeon for 3rd Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division. He deployed to Hurricane Katrina with the Air Cavalry Brigade in 2005. He then deployed with 3rd brigade to Iraq from Sept 2006-Dec 2007. Following deployment he served as Chief of the Emergency Department at Martin Army Hospital in Ft Benning, GA.
After his separation from the Army, Dr. Shih moved to Texas with his family and currently resides here with his two sons. He is thrilled to be a part of the Austin ER team in delivering top quality care to this community.
