Director of Operations – South Lamar & Far West
Our staff here at Austin Emergency Center is highly trained to quickly react to critical situations and enact lifesaving measures to save the lives of our patients. Sometimes our patients may not even be inside the walls of Austin Emergency Center. Registered Nurse and Director of Operations, Deb Hays, was in the right place at the right time last month well after her shift was over.
While exercising at her local gym, she noticed a commotion and a look of panic on people’s faces down a nearby hallway. She recognized that something was not right and immediately ran to help. She came upon an older gentleman who was lying on the floor with no pulses or spontaneous breathing. Deb promptly ran to get the AED machine and attached the gentleman to the pads while directing others to keep performing CPR.
She was able to analyze his heart rhythm, provide a shock to the gentleman’s heart, and in the end, she was able to get a heartbeat back on the patient by the time EMS arrived. Deb’s training, experience and insight enabled her to act swiftly and save this man’s life. She is a true local hero and we are extremely proud to have her as part of the Austin Emergency Center family.
Way to go, DEB!!!
